Pondicherry, officially known as Puducherry, is the capital and the most-populous city of the Union Territory of Puducherry in India. The city is in the Puducherry district on the southeast coast of India and is surrounded by the state of Tamil Nadu, with which it shares most of its culture and language.

Pondicherry falls on the National Highway 45 and ECR(East Coast Road), which connects it to major cities of South India such as Chennai, which is about 150 kilometres away and Bangalore, which is 320 kilometres away.
